(Ich werde diese Frage in English/Deutsch--Deutschlish?--antworten. Ich hoffe, dass schlechtes Deutsch angenehm für Sie ist! ) Ich habe vor 8 Jahre im USA überall gereisst und gespielt. Ich hatte zu viel zu tun! Nein, Ich hatte immer nach Europa zu kommen wollen, aber keine Labels waren interested, und ich konnte nicht allein zu kommen, als ich im USA oft touren. Ich habe Deutsch vor zwei Jahre studiert--nur für mein selbst. Es war ein tolles Coincidence, dass Arne and Nois-o-lution interested war.

Do you look at “Introduction” as a Best Of?
Vielleicht. Diese sind doch meinen besten Lieder der letzten Jahre. Mein solo career ist zu jung, dass ich ein wirkliches Best-Of haben konnte.

Are you happy with the song choice? Did you choose their order and all?
Ja, ich bin glücklich. Ich wählte meistens von der Lieder. Ich wollte aller mein solo-career to represent.

On page one of the booklet to “Introduction” you briefly but honestly summarize your music career till the present day. Do you use such opportunities to express yourself and get rid of some old demons that came along with Soul Coughing?Die Teufel (geht das?) sind wirklich in meinem Leben. Ich habe viele Teufel in meinem Kopf, und nicht alles von Soul Coughing. Ich habe ein wirkliches Shrink, aber Musik ist auch Therapy.

You also wrote about your bad health condition until the year 2000. Musicians tend to say that drugs don’t improve songwriting. Looking back what would you say?
Mein Songwriting war seriously improved im Anfang meiner Drogenjahre. Als ich jung war, retten Droge mein Leben. Wirklich. Ich war so unglücklich, dass ich kein Lieder schreiben konnte. Aber nachher etwas Jahre, die Droge hatte mein Creativity gebrannt. Ich konnte nicht Lieder erfinden. Wann ich die Droge aufgehört hatte, kam meine Lieder zurück.

Do you sometimes think about what could have emerged from Soul Coughing if the band didn’t brake up?
Nein. Meine Bandmitglieder möchte mich nicht. Ich hatte alle der Lieder geschriebt, aber sie wollten nicht mein stuff spielen. Acht Jahre waren genug mit Soul Coughing. Wir hatten das Sound fertig gemacht.

After all these years of playing solo what is the good and what is the bad side of it?
Es gibt kein bad side. Ich reise, ich spiele, and ich geneiße mein Leben.

I once read you where thinking of moving to Berlin. Why Berlin and what happened to that ‘plan’?
Weil ich mein Deutsch üben konnte, und ist da auch wirklich das Zentrum des Europas. New York ist jetzt ein bisschen langweilig, weil zu viel Geld da ist. Es gibt nicht so viele Kunstler. Es ist zu teuer. Aber ich geneiße sehr Brooklyn. Da ist meinen Heimat. Mein ganzes Leben war in New York. Ich muss da bleiben, aber auch muss ich reisen.

What are your current influences? And how does your work on new song material look like?
Ich höre oft zu Jose Gonzales. Ich mag sehr viele komische Musik--Mongolian throat singing, the longer works of Steve Reich. Und auch viel old R&B Platten. Kennen Sie der Ethiopiques series von CDs? Diese Musik ist sehr komische und sehr cool. Ich schreibe neue Lieder in aller meinen Zeit. Jetzt schreibe ich zwei Platten, eine normale Akusticheplatte, und eine electrtronikePlatte mit vielen drum-machines and sampled Stimmen. Meine Stimme ist nicht in
